Has anyone been to this place (Lex. & 64th)or heard anything about it? I found out that it's been around since 1950, but yesterday saw it for the first time - and I've been down that stretch of Lexington a million times!

I've been to it a number of times when in the area.
It's a real neighborhood place. Not that expensive at all. It stays because locals eat there when eating out.
Also, friends of mine who went to Hunter College use to go there quite a lot. Go there some evening and you'll see its well patronized. Food is quite good as is the service. But remember, its not haute cuisine steakhouse fare.

Thanks, Walter. That's exactly the kind of place we look for. And, unfortunately, it's a member of a species that has become quite endangered in the past decade of 'disneyfication' in Manhattan. Our own favorite neighborhood joint, Brew's, which had been owned and run by the Brew family for 63 years, closed earlier this year. We will definitely give Donohue's a try. If you really stretch it, you could say it's kind of, sort of in our neighborhood (Murray Hill) - well walking distance anyway.

I live in Murray Hill myself. (Park & 36th), and never
knew Brew's closed. I haven't walked down 34th Street to 3rd for some time. Brew's was always crowded, although mostly at the bar. I loved their steak broiled on a hot plate at your table. When did it close and why. The daughter of one of the family lived in my building for a number of years.

it was sad because not only did it close, the whole building was torn down.

I love Donohue's as a bar but a lot the food I've had has been of the retirement home type -- and I LOVE old restaurants and old fashioned dining. I don't find it cheap at all. It is a very enjoyable place, however, and the location comes in handy.

The food at Donahue's is straight from 1975. Boiled Veggies. Lamb Chops (porter house cut) on Toast . Side of mint jelly. Surly bartender (Frank). Musty dining room. The restaurant time forgot...

I love it.
