I'm an LA Chowhound, and I'll be in NY in October. The Russian Tea Room has been on my list (of things to do, not necessarily places to eat), and I'm going to take the plunge this time. Any recommended dishes, drinks, places to sit (I visited their website, and I'm tossed up as to request first or second floor seating). I've been to NY many times, and the Russian Tea Room as always alluded me. P.S. Thanks for all of your other recommendations, I've been browsing the NY Chowhound threads for weeks.

I suggest the 2nd floor. I was actually on the 4th floor for a private meeting and lunch on the 3rd floor afterwards. At this restaurant, it is definitely, the higher the more ostentatious in terms of decor. To get the Russian Tea Room effect, I would try and sit on the 2nd floor.

Sorry, I can't comment as to the food. We had a choice of 2 entree items and set appetizers and dessert. I can't remember what they were. But I do remember being pleased with my meal.

Hope this helps. Have a fantastic time in NYC.
