Daniel in summer

  • j

Jim, hope we're posting on the right board - maybe this is a general post, our experience with French restauraunts, here and in France, don't most of the kitchen and house staff take off a lot of the month of August for vacation? We ask because we have a table reserved for the first week of August at Daniel, and our fear is that the majority of the kitchen staff will be on holiday, making what might be a very special birthday dinner (a first-time visit) into something resembling a New Year's Eve debacle. Does anyone have an idea of what might be happening at Daniel in August?

  1. I dined at Daniel last August, and did not notice a dramatic drop off from the rest of the year. Maybe Daniel Boulud limits the number of staff taking their vacation in August.
Also, New Years eve dinner at Daniel is good, it is just hard to swallow paying $350 for what is normally a $125 dinner. Still, it was a fun way to ring in the new Millenium.

Was it an all-around drop off? Food and service and/or just the number of actual staff?

We had a lovely dinner at Daniel on Saturday, July 17. The food was just as wonderful as we had been told and the service was exceptionally friendly and efficient. We all agreed that it was our best dining experience in NY. Daniel is wise to pair his splendid food with a wait staff that is well-trained and knows how to make customers feel appreciated. It's expensive but it's worth it.
