Met Trustees Dining Room Report

Had Saturday lunch there and I have to say it was a fantastic experience. The food was great, the room is beautiful, great views, tables spaced far apart, very attentive and gracious service. Found no flaws with anything.

Appetizers:
We had the peaky toe crab salad which had diced papaya on top and a fruity vinegrette dressing. Thanks to the Chowhound who reccommended this dish. Also ordered the chilled fresh pea soup which I had a taste of. Chilled soup is not my thing, but this was definitely very good, much better than the ordinary chilled cucumber soups that most retaurants offer.

Entrees:
Shared the Maryland crab cakes which was almost all lump crab meat and excellent with coleslaw on the side. A grilled seared tuna on a bed of mesculun greens, string beans, and small potatoes with a vinegrette dressing.

Dessert:
Too full by then, and only ordered one to share, but it was awesome. A flourless chocolate cake with molten warm chocolate filling which oozed out when we cut it in half to share. Vanilla ice cream was on the side. Absolutely delicious and a fantastic end to a great meal.

Service:
The waitstaff was very good. When we ordered, we mentioned that we would be sharing everything. When each dish was brought out, there was an extra plate for us to share. An extra spoon for the soup was automatically brought out. She took the initiative and ordered 2 crab cake appetizers instead of the entree, so it came out on 2 separate plates. We ordered the tuna medium rare and it came out well done. When we brought this to her attention, she could not have been nicer. Took a look at the dish and apologized for not spotting it before bringing it out to us. Took it back and came back to our table stating that it has human error and another would be brought out.

Highly reccomend this restaurant. Although hours are very limited. They serve dinner on Fri and Sat nights only. I believe lunch everyday except Mon. when the museum is closed and Sun. brunch. I am looking forward to having a dinner and Sunday brunch when I go back to the museum. A delightful meal and so much better then their cafeteria which really is awful and one of the worst museum cafeterias in NY. Does anyone know if other museums also have trustees dining rooms?

  1. Eva, do you need to be a member of the Met to make reservations for the Trustees dining room and what are the prices? Thanks.

      Yes you do need to be a member to make reservations. Lunch for 2 with no alchohol, we each had an iced tea was approximately $85. Appetizers range from $8 to $12 and entrees from $18 to $25. Desserts are about $6 to $9.
