SNACK (in SOHO) report

Went to SNACK for lunch yesterday, Thompson St. Btwn Prince & Spring. It's a tiny Greek snack/meal place. I had the vegetarian souvlaki, simply put together, cucmbers, onions, tomatoes, gigantes, and it's covered in a delicious garliky tzsiki sauce, served in a warm pita. $5.95. You also get 2 stuffed grape leaves with the sandwich. My friend had the spinach pie which was served with a choice of mezze. It too was very good. Flaky phyllo, and the spinach tasted fresh and not overdone. I'm going to go back again soon. The lamb sandwich looked really moist and savory. The place is very tiny seats only about 10.

    1. I second the recommendation. I went there a few weeks ago with a friend, and I had the meze dip plate (skordalia, taramosalata and humus with dolmas) which was as good as a similar one I had had at Estiatorio Milos. A friend had a special of eggplant stuffed with ground beef, and enjoyed it as well. I also recommend the mint lemonade.

I finally made it to Snack for lunch today... Been meaning to ever since Asimov's review in '99. I had a platter of tatziki, tarama and Skordalia, with dolma and pita. The tatziki and tarama were both as good as I've had anywhere in Manhattan, skordalia was not so good. Dolma were very fine indeed.

I went back last week and had the vegetarian mousaka, and it was not too good. It was hot on the outside, and cool in the middle. It was also dry. My friend had the spinach pie and taramasalata and that was fine. I'd like to try there soup, has anyone had it?

            2. Thanks for the reports--Are they open for dinner?

Yes they are, but I don't know the exact hours. They also have a menu with options only available at dinner.

Will check it out for a birthday meal and will pass any details on. Thank you!

SNACK isn't a place I'd rec. for a birthday celebration AT ALL. It's a small snack/meal place good for lunch or a dinner alone.

They're open 'til 10pm. They also deliver, but not sure how far. Check out the octopus and the butter bean salad, both of which are stellar.
