Merge and Roy's

Had dinner at these two places on Friday and Saturday.

Merge - dinner ended up being a great time. went for a friends birthday with a group of eight. The place is good for this size party or less. they had a table for more people but seemed a bit tight. As for the food, i had duck confit for an appetizer and it was good. nice crunchy skin with moist duck and some asian noodles. Tried the mussel app also and that was good, supposedly the crab appetizer was good but i'm allergic to shellfish. Next for entrees i had the catfish with grits. it was delicious. really rich in flavor. Tried some of the haberno tuna which was better than the special tuna they had. For dessert they have smores which was fun. overall a good dining experience.

Roy's - pan-asian cuisine in the mariott downtown. great martini's to start with. for appetizer had some sort of ravioli with spinach, mushroom and cheese. delicious. tried some others but nothing great. for entrees i ordered a the seabass (blowfish on the menu) that came with a sushi roll. the roll tasted like a big rice ball. fish was a little overcooked. my friend liked it so i switched with her for her Mahi Mahi. Better but once again slightly overcooked. The entrees were saved by good sauces. but uninspiring sides. overall good food but not for the prices. entrees were in the high 20 to low 30 ranges and apps were about low to mid teens.

"Shellfish" has three categories: crustaceans, mollusks (mussels, clams, oysters), and cephalopods. So no, it's not just you!

apologize for my use of shellfish. i usually use the term to encompass lobster, crab and shrimp (crustaceans). i should be clearer in the future.
