Ok..I know this place isn't serious but my friends want to take me out for my birthday and I chose Lucky Cheng's in the village so we could all act silly and just have a good time.We want to try something different. has anyone ever been here? Thanks,Richie

it's a extremely poor choice on all counts. the food is horrendous and overpriced, and there are many other choices.

think about getting a huge table at a good place in chinatown, oriental garden for seafood, na trang for vietnamese, ping's or joe's for all around eats. let the beers flow. then hit winnies on bayard st (?) for some real karoke fun.

if its not an asian theme you want, there is a myrad of fun choices, here are a few:

rio mar or florent in the meat market
    day-o on greenwich st
    odeon in tribeca

lucky changs will make you feel anything but lucky after you depart

    best of luck

I've eaten there for a friend's birthday. It was several years ago that I ate there and all I remember was that the food was horrendously salty and overpriced. Richie, I really recommend that you eat elsewhere and perhaps get drinks at Lucky Chengs.

I've been there but was sufficiently drunk that I have no memory whatsoever of the food.

Well if I did not have a good time at least I don't remember it.

Lucky Cheng's can be a lot of fun if you have a few drinks first and enjoy verbal dueling with drag queens. The drag is definately the highlight. Don't go just for drinks as the bar area in the basement is a claustrophobic nightmare with a goldfish pond, leftover from the restaurant's former life as a gay bath house.

I agree - it can be a fun place and the food is besides the point. I've been a couple of times-once when there were birthdays and a bridal shower another time. Both parties looked like they were having a fine jolly time.

Go with an open mind, have fun, and flirt with the "waitresses."
