Sam's in Tiburon

Sam's in Tiburon (not the one in San Francisco) has a reputation as a singles bar--good strictly for drinks. However, dinner in the restaurant is a whole different world. Some of the dishes there rival the very best restaurants in the SF area. Try the ahi served on a potato cake, swordfish with peppercorn sauce, steamed mussels or petrale sole. Every week they have a special for $15-16 that includes soup or salad, main course, and desert. We've been there six times. We recently took our friends, who are real gourmets and were skeptical about our claims that Sam's had become a great restaurant. After trying the ahi, they went back to the kitchen to meet and congratulate the chef.
One of the very best days of my life had a lunch at Sam's. My parents were in town from back east, and I played hooky from work. It was one of those resplendent, balmy January days, and we ate cold Dungeness crab and drank beer on the deck at Sam's, defending our bounty from the divebombing seagulls and languidly sunning for what must have been hours. Yes, it is lovely there.
