Has anyone tried this place on Lexington and 104th?
following a review i read in the ny times a couple of weeks ago, i went there to check it out for myself. it was okay at best but still no comparsion to the mexican food in california i'm used to. i found a better taco stand on the south side of east 116th between 2nd and 3rd. sorry i don't have a name but you'll know it's the place when you see a long line of latin men out front. it is standing room only but worth a visit.
Being from California, and having lived here 10 years, I am constantly on the lookout for good California-ish Mexican food. "Authenticity" for me doesn't exclude such North of the border innovations as the burrito. But definitely does exclude anything with eggplant, spinach tortillas, and other monstrosities. El Paso makes one great burrito-- I always eat the veggie one, which has great proportions of crema agria, fried cheese, pinto beans, jalapenos, salsa, lettuce, tomato and rice. I've also enjoyed their chicken tacos and know aficionados of their pork, carnitas, and chicken burritos. They're also super nice and the prices are excellent.
