I think this may be a long shot but a friend of mine is looking for the restaurant on "Forbe Island"??? off the Marin coast, near Sausalito. Apparently it is highly recommended. I have never heard of such an island...maybe someone has. I would be interested in finding out more about it. Thanks in advance. Margret
This is funny. Forbes Island is a fake island in the SF Bay, right off of Pier 39 in the heart of SF's tourist/wharf area. It has been discussed here, but could not find link. Not so sure on the highly recommended or not, but sounds like a trip. Homepage link below.
I used google.com to do a search
Thank you very much for the help. My friend did say that it's a fake island....but for whatever reason, he thought it was near Sausalito. Oh well, it *is* funny. Anyway, I went to the Forbes Home Page...it looks ok but I can't help but think that it's probably too tourisy for me. I'll pass the info on. Thanks again
Forbes Island (actually a landscaped barge with a "basement" level) _was_ in Sausalito many years ago, serving as a residence for its eccentric owner. IIRC, when the longstanding houseboat community was cleared out, the barge was sold, towed to Pier 39, and became a tourist attraction.
