Looking for an interesting Saturday lunch in the Richmond for my family. Is Mel's Diner a good choice?

I use Mel's in a pinch when I am pressed for time for the movies. Very basic stuff and atmo that appeals to kids, but nothing to go out of your way for.

I do have to admit that I had a Mel's banana shake and well done french fries at 2 this morning on the way home from a party, and it hit the spot! I usually don't frequent this place, however, unless it is the only thing open.
