My friend from Australia will be visiting me in NYC for a few days next weekend and I need recommendations on where to bring him for a typical NYC foodie experience.

What does he like to eat? I don't know but typical fooie sounds like "Zagatish" to me. Don't you want something more like an extraordinary Chowhound experience? Be more specific and I'd be glad to help.

Thanks Frank! Basically I want to him to have foodie experiences that he's not able to get anywhere else. Something like a chowhound experience! :-) But since both of us are on a budget, I'll have to choose places that aren't too hard on my wallet. I look forward to your suggestions!
      thanks again!

The last time I had a visitor, we managed to have some fun NYC dining experiences without spending too much. The favorite excursion was probably Sunday's ramble around the Lower East Side, eating pretty much continuously. We started out getting a doughnut at the Doughnut Plant and some bialys and bagels at Kossar's (both on Grand), which we devoured on our way over to Gus' for pickles. (Pickles aren't the best for eating and walking, BTW.) We made a stop at the sadly miniaturized Ratner's for matzoh brie, then just strolled around for quite a while to give our stomachs a chance to settle. We wound up in Chinatown, sitting on bench with bubble tea.
