Anyone have any opinions on Isola's (Columbus Ave) or Becco's ( W 46th St) - how is the food, the service, the ambiance?? Thanks so much.

It's hard to imagine going out of your way to go to Isola, but if you need a place on the UWS, this is a good one. In my experience, it's completely pleasant, reliable, unpretentious, reasonably priced, with good if not spectacular food--go for the fried carciofi starter.

I recently went to Becco for their pasta lunch ($16.95 all you can eat, plus antipasti or salad). I had seafood ravioli, rigatoni with pesto and spaghetti with tomato and basil. Pesto had too much parsley in it but overall food was OK. Entrees delivered to other tables looked good. Excellent dessert sampler and good bread. Service was good. Restaurant is fairly small and the tables, while not intolerably cramped, are close together. Not overly noisy. Overall, I'd said it's a good value for the money, but not a must go to place.
