I've taken Soba-ya for granted...

...And I really shouldn't.
I went a couple of times after it opened, had tasty, refreshing cold soba, and filed it away in the "useful but unexciting" category.
I recently went for a quick pre-movie dinner. Brilliant appetizer of of foil-wrapped mushrooms and scallops. Then, soba with slices of duck breast in an intensely pure, orange-zest flavored hot broth. Wonderful green tea to finish.
Nothing write-home-about fabulous, mind you, just very, very good. I have a feeling that if this place wasn't in my neighborhood, I'd spend time figuring out when I could go back next.
(It's on 9th St. btwn. 2nd & 3rd, BTW.)
