52nd & 7th where to eat? large group

  • j

I've got a bunch of out-of -towners coming into the city this weekend. Saturday night we were supposed to go to Virgil's BBQ. Called back had to up the reservation to 13. Virgil's tells me that I need to pick 3 appetizers 3 entrees and 3 desserts and that's all the group gets to choose from. I can't, no I won't do this, not to myself or anyone else. So can anyone tell me a good place to go in that neighboorhood, that can handle 13-15 people.

  1. Chez Suzette (675 9th Ave, 581-9717) might still cater to large groups--although it's not exactly in the area you want, it might be close enough. Our company used to have parties about that size there and they were very gracious to us--afraid I don't remember the food very well because we were always trying to top each others' jokes. But as I recall, their fish dishes were quite nice.

    1. Churrascaria Plataforma (on 49th between 8th and 9th) has tables for up to I think 20, and is a fun place to have a party. I'm sure you can find lots of posts on this site - it's Brazilian barbeque.

Otherwise, there's the midtown Carmine's but the food is not too good. But I have been to parties that size there.

      1. It's not very cheap, but Molyvos on 7th around 55th is good Greek food and they're very nice--I've taken a group of 10 there and they made no fuss at all.
