Shortly after coming back from Cairo, I've had a hankering for kushari, which is basically macroroni with lentils, and various spices. Anyone know of an authentic, inexpensive place that sells kushari?

thanks.

I went through the same cravings myself after coming back from Cairo a few years ago. There's a place called Village Restaurant on 2nd Ave. b/w 2nd and 3rd that sometimes serves kushari. It's an Egyptian/pizza/grilled chicken joint that is usually filled with car service drivers. I haven't been there in a while, but they used to serve kusheri once or twice a week. Good luck.

I believe the felafel place on St. Marks Place just west of 1st Avenue (across from the Theatre 80 St. Marks) has it or a similar dish at least some of the time.
