Canteen or ???

Has anybody been to Canteen recently? A friend of mine from Chicago is coming to visit and I was thinking of going there.
I am also contemplating Lupa, Red Cat, Clementine. I realize that these are all very different restaurants, but I would appreciate any feedback or thoughts. I've read in the message boards that Lupa has long waits. I already made a reservation--do they honor them?
Basically, I'm looking for great food in the $40-$45 range, anywhere in Manhattan, and somewhat "cool".
Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
My impression of Canteen is that it's not about the food at all. Really unimpressive, and I don't think it'll be in the price range you mention, either. Things seemed ridiculously overpriced. I still get annoyed when I think about the chicken pot pie, which was in the $20 range and was just all wrong: a paper-thin layer of pastry crust on top of a thin chicken stew with way too much thyme (or maybe oregano or marjoram; I can't quite remember.) You know, when you get a chicken pot pie you want a decent slab of crust on top that can soak up some of the gravy. If you're meeting a bunch of friends & you hang with the kind of people who can outshout everybody else in the dining room & you're not particularly hungry & one of your friends is a big spender who's going to pick up the tab, then by all means go to Canteen.
I'd recommend Lupa for sure. Extremely reasonable prices if you ask me, and almost everything I've eaten (except for the saltimbocca, about which there was a minor sub-thread a few weeks ago) has been awesome.
Red Cat's good too. I'd recommend the signature sauteed zucchini with toasted almonds and the tempura green beans from the appetizers. Entrees change more often but I've never had a bad one. And it's pretty fairly priced.
