Has any been to Ally's End recently - Am looking for a Chelsea or Penn Station type restaurant that is sort of quiet and is notjust generic, Med/Cal food
Have had two excellent meals there in the last few months. Service was excellent and the food was, too. There were four of us, both times, and everyone enjoyed their meals. The menu isn't enormous, but it covers a good range in appetizers and entrees. There was a terrific crab spring roll with Thai dipping sauce that my husband had for an appetizer both times. The steak was perfectly seared on the outside and cooked just right on the inside, served with garlic mashed potatoes. The potatoes are also available as a separate side dish, so don't let that sway you. I had a crisp bass one time and duck breast the next -- both delicious. And the prices are quite reasonable. I recommend Alley's End highly and I hope your experience turns out to be as good as ours.
Was there with a group of four several months ago. We often go to the Joyce Theater, and so we're always looking for good new places to dine in that area (because it's so easy to find good old places or bad new places).
We all thoroughly enjoyed Alley's End. One of us has returned on a number of occasions, and I expect I will as well. The food was solid, the ambiance is pleasant--quiet and attractive. (Check out the restrooms!)
Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area, not necessarily worth a trip.
