Aquavit Cafe

Wanted to post about a lovely experience at Aquavit's cafe. I was slightly nervous about a chilly reception and about the remembered tiny portions from a last visit to the dining room. Couldn't have been more pleasantly surpised: warm greeting right in the door; friendly service; decent portions.
Had the herring sampler - someone actually pointed out what the different samples were.
Had the turkey bacon crusted salmon, cooked perfectly medium rare as requested.
The Swedish meatballs were less than stellar, but the lingonberries with them were divine.
The pepper cheesecake with pineapple sorbet ranks up there with Babbo's marscapone maple variety.
I'll definitely return to the cafe over the dining room next time. Anyone else?

    1. I had an equally wonderful experience at the Cafe a few months ago. I took a friend who had spent a year living in Sweden and it was fun to see him enjoy returning to some tastes he hadn't had in quite some time. He loved the various aquavits on the menu and we each loved our main course. We had some excellent after dinner wine as well. If you go, ask for a table as far from the bar as you can if you don't like smoke (I don't) because they do allow smoking at the bar. But this is a really good meal at a very moderate price. Of course, the downstairs is fantastic, too.
