Hi, I'm going to be in the 92nd St & Bdwy area tomorrow night, and I need to find a good and cheap place for dinner (around $10 or less if possible). I'm really up for anything. Please help me. Thanks a lot!

    For your next trip:
Try Pampa @ 97 & Amst. While it might break the $10 barrier (though not by much), it is well worth it for really good Argentinian beef.

sorry to be a bad host, Brad, but I've gotta respectfully disagree. I'm not a fan of Pampa...don't find the beef that good, and everything tastes like it's cooked by machine. But you're in plenty of company...lots of people love the place.

Little late to the party on this one, but City Diner at 90/Bwy is IMO much better than your ordinary diner, especially when you move out of the usual diner menu territory. Their ingredients were always high quality and fresh. They have the usual overly large menu, and there's a few so-so dishes, but they have terrific (huge) salads for 8-9-10 bucks (one fav was grilled portobello on mixed greens - good mix of mesclun, lots of shroom) - the balsamic vinaigrette tastes like they make it on the premises, although a little heavy on the vinegar for me; if you ask for oil and vinegar, you get cruets of balsamic vinegar and olive oil. None of this plastic packet salad dressing stuff. My husband liked their grilled tuna & salad - if med rare was requested, it was what showed up on the plate. Also, pork chops - two large juicy ones with cooked apples and good mashed potatoes.

If you go in and want to sit at the counter, see if Peter is working. Nice friendly guy, great counterman.

I recently moved out of the neighborhood and I miss having it across the street! A good, reliable, consistent, neighborhood place.

There's also Flor de Mayo, on Amsterdam and 93rd or so.

Saigon Grill on 87th & Bwy is just fine. You can get a huge mess o'noodles, either in soup or pan-fried ("bun xiao," kinda like Vietnamese pad thai) for less than $10. You can go crazy with extra peppers & hot sauce too.

You are one street and one avenue away from Gabriela's, a good Mexican restaurant on 93rd and Amsterdam. You can have a filling meal there for under $10.
