Mussels at Le Frit Kot
Le Frit Kot is a belgian style fries stand on W Fourth
just east of 6th. They recently opened a small
usptairs eating area, and broadened their menu to
include mussels, so I stopped in here after school
tonight with a friend for some mussels, fries and beer.
I have always liked their fries, and the mussels were
fabulous. A big pot for about $10, including some
fries. They were plump. briny and sand-free, prepared
simply with wine onion and celery -- nothing
ungepotchked. Definitely worth checking out. The only
thing that runs up the tab is the beers, which run
between around $4 and $8, but then I think Belgian
beers are worth it. The selection of beers is small but
nice, and they have Gueze which I love. We had a nice
light meal (though definitely not lo-cal) for $30 for
two.
Worth checking out.

re: Josh Mittleman
I think the gueze was maybe Lindemann's but I am not
sure-- I wasn't playing close enough attention. It
was a little tarter and lighter than I recall, but
very good. They had about 8 different beers altogether
-- Duvel, Chimay, two lambics (gueze and kriek), a
white beer on tap, stella artois, and a few others.
