East Village - What's new and worthwhile?

JM-NYC Feb 25, 1999 11:00 AM

Taking a friend out for dinner in the East Village. Seems like there are lots of new and interesting places opening all the time. Any suggestions?

I suggest you start by using the Search feature for
these Boards. Its easy, and past postings are a great
resource as a starting point. There have been many
    recent EV recommendations. good luck!

I don't know about new but I always love Orologio. If
you go, try the artichoke appetizer! It's fabulous!
You can't go wrong if you're looking for good cheap
food and a casual, cool atmosphere.

Had a great & reasonable meal at Pisces on 6th and Avenue A....kudos also for the atmosphere and service...we liked the upstairs better- more private feeling...the fish was fresh, nice portions and well priced...yup. we're heading back next weekend!

I've posted on the horrors of O.G. elsewhere.
Another, nearby, establishment I'd avoid is Cuckoo Caribe. The food was mediocre and service not much better.
Intersting to read a good review of Pisces -- been turned off by them to date as they cater to smokers. If there's a genuinely smoke-free section there, I'd be willing to give them a try.

No one was smoking Upstairs on my visit...my spouse would have swam outta there if that had been the case......kind of ironic though, they do pride themselves on 'home smoked culinary features'!
