Best places with only a week's warning?

She said yes, she's also going to be in NYC on the 26th!

Now, I ask myself, where shall we go?

I read the Chowhounds message board, which seems to say
that many of the places I have found in Zagats and the
Times (Babbo, Cafe Baulud, Cena, Lespinasse, Le Cirque
2000, Le Bernadin) need reservations a month in advance.

Any ideas for a truly delicious and romantic experience
if I call tomorrow, the 23rd? (Even if you answer days
later, I would be interested for future information.)

Also, I grew up in NYC but now live in rural Delaware,
which is now home and has its advantages, but is
anything but a center of flavor. So I'd love a real NYC
experience. Is it true that the Rainbow Room is no
longer terrible?

Two romantic places in the village you might get into
are One If By Land and Capsuoto Frese.
Oceana in midtown is one of Mrs. K's favs.

It's a month later, but I still want to say thanks to
all. I'll try these suggestions when I'm next in a last
minute situation looking for something truly elegant.
Believe it or not, I ended up getting reservations at
Babbo for 7:45 PM, calling only three days ahead.
Either I was lucky or the rigors of getting a table at
these "hot" places has been exaggerated. Thanks again!

It would have been thoughtful of you to tell us what
              you thought of BAbbo?
