After this not so good experience, I took my children
to Mazzei (just up the block on 2nd Ave.) and had a
delicious dining experience....great food and great
service. Does anyone else agree with me?
I couldn't agree more. My girlfriend and I ate there for the fist time last week, and are looking for a chance to return. The service was fantastic, the atmosphere delightful, and the food (particularly the fresh, homenade pasta) wonderful. She had pasta with meat sauce which was exceptionally tasty (in leftover form) and my linguini w/ red clam sauce was delicious. All that, a bottle of wine, and a 25% tip for $100. How can you go wrong?
Mazzei is wonderful, if horribly noisy. But hey, you were in a neighborhood filled with restaurants that serve almost identical dishes, a kind of modern Italian-American (or Italian-Upper East Side) Cuisine. Chopped salad! Veal milanese! Chicken paillard! Pasta with tomatoes and basil and "Waiter, is there any cream in this sauce?" One of the oldest--and most child-friendly (though I don't know how old your kids are) is Parma. Give it a try.
