Anyone been to Cafe Spice?

Dawat owner Sushil Malhotra's recently launched affordable Indian place in the NYU environs. I'm going to check it out next week. Another one is slated to open up in Grand Central Terminal later this year....

Also has the high-profile "TABLA" opened up yet? Rumor has it it's going to be in the MetLife building and that Danny Meyer is a partner. With Danny involved it's GOT to be delish.

Indian fusion is growing and I am extremely happy. I'd put garam masala on my cheerios if I could :)

All the best,
Lisa

    Liza dear Liza:

I just walked by Cafe Spice (on University Place
between 10th and 11th Streets) and it hasn't QUITE
opened yet. I'd say by next week it should be up and
running. No menu, but very clean, deep space.

Yes, Tabla will open in the MetLife building probably
in September, alongside 11 Madison Square, a
Franco-American restaurant. Danny Meyer is heading up
both. Tabla will be American food with Indian spices,
and a spice toasting and grinding room is on the
premises. There will also be special
breads--horseradish naan and the like. There was a
preview at Macy's De Gustibus series which I
wisely attended, and you can bet your turmeric you'll
    be very pleased.

All you have to do is wait! Bon appetit!

    Tom

It's Tuesday the 7th, I just walked by Cafe Spice
again, and it's still not open, but they're working
like bumblebees. It looks like it will open by the
      weekend.

Here is Sietema's review, probably for tomorrow's
Voice. It is far from a rave. See the url below.
