Manhattan Greek

Shemmy Mishaan Sep 24, 1997 11:06 AM

In light of the spate of high-line Greek openings in Manhattan, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for great reasonable Greek restaurants in the borough. I'm partial to Agrotikon on East 14th Street, any good ideas?

Sea Grill of the Aegean on 2nd Ave. @ 81st. Very Good
    fish, nice candlelit atmosphere. Reasonable.

I had terrific octopus and especially grilled calamari at Uncle Nick's on 9th Ave. bet 50th and 51st. From my limited experience there, it looks like what they do best is simple grilling. The fish was so good I didn't have the heart to eat chicken or lamb, but many others seemed to be enjoying theirs.

One more thing, Shemmie. Be sure and get the potatoes, which are roasted with onions and olive oil at Uncle Nick's. Superb.
