I'm planning on a nite out, Sat or Fri with a group of 6 to 8. Looking for a cool place with GOOD food. Some friends are in from various cities and not easily impressed. A BYO is ok if necessary. Ideally not a "fancy" place.

Dish would be my pick. The New American cuisine is very good, and service is fine. It's a fairly small place with pleasant contemporary decor, relatively tight seating, and a noise level that can be high when the room is full. It is BYO, but if you prefer not to shlep your own, they have an arrangement with a nearby wine shop that will deliver your choice from a list.

Red
Front Street. It's similar to a nyc lounge a bit more money but there are some good buys great burger bean casserole (better than it sounds
Echo
Smallish b.y.o.c. "bring your own crowd" great tapas most 8 to 14 $ each with alot of different 50 choices from terrific flank steak nachos alot of seafood almost everything and some more Teak is literally 100 foot walk so I would check out both Echo being the least in atmosphere of the 3 but can be fun if a crowd shows up also the least expensive

hello:

I like Teak a lot for drinks and appetizers especially, but the main courses are not bad either.

Get a few orders of lamb chops if you go - they are great, also the rock shrimp. You cant go wrong with most of em and you can share a few mains if you are really hungry.

Does Red still serve food? I haven't been in a while, but I always liked the setting there, and the cosmopolitans with fresh lime juice are a favorite.

Otherwise, a BYO favorite of mine is Siam Garden, thai food over in the Galleria. Also, Sogno on Broad is great.
