Does anyone know a store to buy good free-range chicken for home cooking in/near Closter in Bergen County? Not Murray's or Empire, but perhaps Dartagne or other? (my brother buys his at farmer's market in Manhattan, and i'm lusting.) thanks.

What about going to Abma's Farm & Market at 700 Lawlins Road in Wyckoff. I've listed their website below.

Here is an except from their site:

The Abma Farm, located in Wyckoff, New Jersey is just 30 miles from New York City.
The farm has been in the Abma family since 1935, and consisted of approximately 50 acres. At that time and up until 1970 it was mainly a poultry operation. In 1962 customers began coming to the farm to purchase fresh eggs year round and vegetables in the summer months. Even today long-time customers remember the days when the eggs were purchased at a "self-service" stand at the 200-year-old barn. Today the same barn, which is one of the few original Dutch barn styles in the area, has been converted into a market where the second, third and fourth generation Abma's are still selling fruits, vegetables, poultry and eggs produced on their 30 acre home farm and other rented properties.

Abma's farm has been servicing the community for over 70 years with fresh produce, poultry and eggs. Our eggs are collected fresh each morning so you know you can trust our quality. Our meat, chickens are free range and are feed a high quality grain free of hormones and antibiotics. Our produce is grown fresh on our own farm using the latest growing techniques to provide you with the best product. Off-season, our fruits and salad greens come daily direct from the different production areas to us.

We have 600 Rhode Island Reds (brown) and 1400 White Leghorn chickens to supply our customers with fresh eggs every day. We do not use antibiotics, hormones, nor chemical additives in our feed. Because our eggs are so fresh, we do not put an oil coating on the eggs to preserve freshness. With our eggs you can be sure they are not only fresh, but the flavor is terrific. Try one and taste the difference of a truly farm fresh egg.

I posted an answer to this on the tristate board, recommended Abma's as well and Goffle Poultry Farm on Goffle Road on the Wyckoff, Ridgewood, Hawthorne borders. You're right. It isn't though, that Closter's that far; it's that there's no direct route.
