San Jose Restaurants

My wife and I are going to San Jose near the art msueum. I am at a loss as to where to eat. We can arrange lunch or an early dinner and will be coming along 101. Hope I get some good ideas.
In the immediate vicinity of the museum, the usual downtown spots, some of which may sound familiar, all of which are OK, none of which are totally stunning: E&O Trading Company on First and San Fernando, Il Fornaio in the Sainte Claire at Market and San Carlos, Bella Mia on First between San Fernando and Santa Clara, Gordon Biersch on San Fernando between First and Second. Other than those, there's a new Thai place on First between San Fernando and San Carlos that gets good notice among the locals, but I haven't tried it. Big ticket at the Grill at the Fairmont, also at Paolo's, up San Carlos on Market. If you're willing to walk a few blocks, 71 St. Peter, at 71 San Pedro St., is a really good reasonably priced bistro kind of place. It's small, you probably want a reservation. I also like La Pastaia in the Hotel DeAnza on Santa Clara near Almaden Blvd.
Seen the posting dated December 17, "Dining near San Jose Repertory Theatre." The easiest way to find it is with a Google search; I couldn't find it looking back or with the Chow search engine.
We liked Stratta's on San Fernando very much and I think it's also near the art museum.
