Only place I know for pizza in Princeton is Conte's, I believe it is on Witherspoon, 1/4 mile or so past the hospital (thin crust).

Definately Conte's. I'm heading there this afternoon. They open at noon now on Sunday's. Excellent thin crust pizza. The decor is a throwback to the 40's. Very simple place.

For the best in the area, go to DeLorenzo's Tomato Pies on Hudson Street in Trenton (about 20 minutes away by car). Search for my other post on it for more info.
If you're staying in Princeton, though, I'd recommend Old World Pizza on Nassau St. (near Hoagie Haven). Great thin crust pizza with little smatterings of fresh mozzarella all over. They deliver, too.

I'll second the Delorenzo recommendation. I'll have to try Old World Pizza.

It's not just that DeLorenzo's is a good bet for Princeton... I've had "the best" pizza, according to many locals, in Philadelphia, New York, Boston, New Haven, DC, Chicago, and many places in between. DeLorenzo's is the best I've ever had. Get a large plain with garlic. Get a white or red clam pie. You will never forget how good it is. I've taken approximately 30-40 different people, from all over the country (and the world, as a matter of fact) to DeLorenzo's, and every single one said it was the best pizza they've ever had in their life. Just be prepared to wait, both for a table and for your pizza. On a busy night, I've waited over an hour for a table and another hour for a pizza. Also, go to the bathroom before you get there. The closest bathroom is in the supermarket around the corner. Enjoy!

I lived in Princeton for several years, and I miss Conte's Pizza terribly. The best topping combo is roasted red peppers and pepperoni. The pepperoni comes in thick slices that curl up when the pie bakes....and the thin crust is almost crackery. It's a true neighborhood place-- always crowded, great vibe. You'll find it on Witherspoon a good 10 blocks or so South of Nassau St. Enjoy!

I ordered 12 pies from Contes for my office one rainy day based on the claim that their's was the best. They were hands down the worst pizzas I have ever had anywhere. Even the folks from the office who had recommended them admitted they were pretty awful. Apparently Conte's can be hit or miss, but we definitely missed.

It's just not a take out kind of pie..the thin crust gets chewy in the box. Give it another try, in person, and wsee what you think. If you don't prefer thin crust pizzas, its not a good option, but if you do its one of the best around.

I'm going to have to agree with you there. I lived in Princeton for 18 years, and always found the pizza at Conte's to be so-so. There's just not a whole lot of flavor.

We heard raves and went there and were disappointed. Crust was okay but sauce.. ugh.. Reminded us of canned tomato soup. Toppings were good but without out a good sauce....

Completely agree. After all the raves I have heard about Conte's, I was suprised at how mediocre the pizza was. About the same as any strip mall pizza joint in NJ. Not much flavor from the crust, sauce, or cheese. DeLorenzo's being the bench-mark thin crust pizza, Conte's isn't even in the ballpark.

My husband and I went to Conte's during the week and there were two other people in the restaurant. The wait was as always, LONG. And though the ambiance is nice from the college perspective, plain, perfect, I couldn't and wouldn't rave about the pizza we had. For oficianados I don't think Conte's makes the grade. Their reputation is way overated but if you want the brew-ha-ha, meet old friends and wait too long for just okay, then Conte's is it.

Palermo's in Bordentown is definitely worth driving out of town for. Just head down rt 206 south and about a mile or two before rt 130 Palermo's will be on the right. It looks like an ordinary pizza place but the pie is far from ordinary.

You really should try the Chimney Rock Inn in Bridgewater

I'm surprised no one mentioned Ianos Rosticerria on Nassau Street in Princeton, it opend a couple of years ago in a spot that had a so-so-pizza place. His pizza is excellent starting with a flavorful red sauce and a perfect crust- nice & crispy but not brittle. We had a pie that had small islands of ricotta on it that was amazing, and the fresh tomato pies in summer are perfection. I keep worrying that he's going to be "discovered" and then the wait will be too long.....

I don't think Iano's was there when this thread was started:-) They're fairly new.

Delorenzo's on Hudson is indeed awesome. Gary's son Sam also opened the new Delorenzo's on Route 33 in Robbinsville. It's hard to tell the difference between the pies, and Sammy and his crew are doing it just as good as they were on Hudson Street. And of course, it is BYOB....and they even have a bathroom....as well as salads on the menu. Great place, and worth the drive. We do however still frequent both locations, and split our time between the two.
Palaermo's in Bordentown has the 2nd best tomato pie in the area. Great stuff indeed, and a good rec!
Mangia in Bordentown near the new Acme has a good Brooklyn pie as well. -mJ
