taipei noodle in west belt plaza (near rt23 on periphery of the mall, close to the jewelry exchange). its "cut noodle in beef stew" listed on the menu under "home made cut noodle" is the best version of taipei-style beef stew i have tried. also, if it is not listed under daily special, ask for "basil chicken" (de-boned is an option). the "shredded pork sautéed with pickled cabbage" is tasty and aromatic. once, i overheard a waiter talk a person out of ordering the "cut noodle in beef stew" for being too hot. it is moderately hot. if you can take moderate heat, it is a must have.

note: this restaurant has 3 modes. buffet at lunch on weekdays, to which i have not been but was informed by a usually reliable source who lives nearby that it is geared culinary towards mall workers & shoppers. dim sum lunch on weekends, to which i have not been either but was informed is similar to nyc ctown-style dim sum by the same usually reliable source. finally, dinner, a few dishes of which i described above.

from the outside, this is a generic-looking chinese restaurant, but it would be competitive with the taipei restaurants in flushing if it were located there.

I've only been once, at lunch on a weekday, but had a really good bowl of noodle soup (don't remember the exact contents). You can order off the menu at lunch, which is good to keep in mind. The buffet looked like very average American Chinese food, but the kids in our party were more than happy with it. My father lives nearby and raves about the dim sum on the weekends. According to him there's a pretty extensive Chinese language-only menu, but he says he's always had very good luck with ordering what the next table over is having.

I live near there and they are great.
You are right, the lunch buffet is good but average.

They have great authentic dishes on their menu including hand-cut noodle dishes (very hard to find in the US).

Weekend Dim Sum is as good as NYC, Hong Kong, San Fran or Taipei. ReallY!

You must go to the Anthony Wayne. Try a mixed grille sandwich. just down the street from the "world famous" Fountains of Wayne.

Just moved to Wayne a few months ago and haven't found much either. If you're looking for good food and would like to try something other than Italian or Chinese, I would suggest driving over to Montclair as they have many good restaurants to choose from. SOme of my favorites are Thai Chef (BYOB), Liberte, and Chelsea's Grill.

Good luck...and if you ever find anywhere decent to eat in Wayne, please let me know.

One town over, Oakland, has two very good restaurants.
They are both on the same street, right off main drag.
One is Ruga (more upscale) and the other is an Italian place called Brothers Two....ummm good food. Casual
