Boulevard Drinks

This is one of the best hot dog places around. Located in Jersey City (Journal Square) this place serves all beef dogs slow cooked on a griddle. If you like Papaya King, Gray's Papaya, and Katz's deli, you'll love this place. I spoke with someone at Marathon Enterprises (Sabrett) and he told me that all these places use the basic sabrett dog. This was a surprise to me because Papaya King and Katz's say that their dogs are made from proprietary recipes with special spices. My source says this is all hype. Marathon makes 2 types of dogs, an all beef dog used at these places, and a beef/pork dog used at the Windmill, Callahan's, and the Hot Grill. Both recipes are made in different sizes and come skinless, or natural casing; but there are only 2 recipes. Callahan's deep fries their dog while the Windmill grills theirs.

I've spent $37.50 for 5lbs of Papaya King dogs. Now I find that I can get them from a Sabrett's distributor for $17.50 for 5lbs. These dogs come 10 to a lb. The ones sold at Katz's come 8 to a lb. Don't be fooled by hype and marketing. Katz's, Papaya King, Gray's Papaya, and Boulevard Drinks use the same dog (Katz's is a little bigger) If you're from Jersey, Boulevard Drinks is probably closer. At $1.13 a dog, it's cheaper than Katz's and Papaya King. Gray's is only 75 cents. These dogs are right up their with Father & Son, Syd's, and Jerry's as the best all beef dogs around.
