going to be heading down that way this weekend--staying in the north end of town--and was wondering if anyone can recommend worthy grub....nothing fancy, and preferably a place where a mixed couple (one carnivore, one vegetarian) can happily co-exist...

try La Tolteca in Fairfax Shopping Center on route 202 north. Great Mexican food and something for everyone.

Sorry, I can't let La Tolteca (a.k.a. The Toll House to my colleagues) pass without a comment. If you want the dullest of food--endless combinations of chopped iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, refried beans, shredded cheese, and shredded chicken--go right over. But this is NOT Mexican food and it's not worthy of a recommendation. If you're in Wilmington, I can recommend Queen Bean Cafe (downtown, funky interesting food, 205 W. 7th), Culinaria (Branmar Plaza, Marsh & Silverside Rds., a little more fancy but good imaginative food), or Asian Palace (Independence Mall, Rte. 202, low-atmosphere Chinese, excellent home cooking). Wilmington is, unfortunately, full of boring food, but the above places are halfway interesting. If anyone can suggest other options to me, I'd love to hear them too.

I got quite a number or responses on northern Delaware last spring to a request for Longwood Garden area recommendations - some of these may be helpful.
