hot dogs

Syd's in Union N.J. makes the absolute best hot dogs I've tasted, and I've tried most of them. Superior to Max's, the Windmill, Rutt's Hutt. Charlies Famous in Kenilworth makes the best Italian Hot Dog

I don't like onions, so I've never tried the onion rings at either place. But as far as the hot dogs go, they are both different styles. Syd's serves a 5 to a lb natural casing kosher style all beef dog. It is made by Best Provisions in Newark. Windmill serves a 1/4 lb beef and pork dog made by Sabrett. The Windmill dog is in the German style, meaning that it is milder and contains pork. A little like comparing apples and oranges, but I still prefer Syd's. Syd's is boiled, then charbroiled. Or you can order it boiled. The Windmill prepares their dogs on a griddle, but you can request that they throw it on the grill that they cook the hamburgers. If you like either, or both, you can buy them to have at home. Go to Best Provisions on Avon Ave. in Newark. They will sell them to you. You can get the Windmill dogs at a few supermarkets, but you will pay a high price. Go to any Sabrett distributor to get them cheaper. Funny to see a reply to my post 6 years later!

Syd's is OK, but the onion rings are seriously greasy. I prefer both the dogs and the onion rings at the Windmill (which in my opinion are the best in the world).
