11am-3pm in the hall on the right of the church, on Fridays
Finally made it St. Georges Greek Orthodox Cathedral for lunch on Friday and I need to make a mental note to not eat breakfast if I plan on doing that again. Also, wouldnt be a bad idea to skip dinner as well. The lamb shank over orzo w/string beans and a small Greek salad was a monumental amount of food. Mostly because the lamb shank was the size of a turkey leg and they must know a lamb herder or something as I feel like I ate $7 worth of wholesale lamb alone. Lamb was very tender and flavorful though I think I was about 45 minutes late from having an earth-moving lamb experience, as I suspect it tasted better by orders of magnitude when it was hot from the oven (still warm and very good mind you, just had a bit of a chafing-dish vibe). Orzo was tomato-y and flavorful. Green beans were surprisingly good for being either frozen or canned though not amazing in and of themselves. Greek salad was unremarkable. Oh, and the baklava might have been the final nail in the coffin of my portion control; oozing honey to the point where the layers were sliding around and there was no way to look cool while licking the honey off my fingers. As a rule, if church ladies are making it, Ill eat it, and this proved to be a good move here.
Theyve also got grape leaves, roast chicken, baked salmon, pastistio and spanakopita and what appears to be a somewhat rotating list of pastries with baklava and kataifi being constant. I think it only runs till the spring so hit it soon if youre interested.
Does anyone know if this is still running? I'd love to go, and maybe bring my work crew. I'm guessing it's cash only, which is cool.
Any more info on whether St. Georges still does Friday luncheons would be appreciated!
Called the number that was provided above, they aren't doing the lunch right now, from what I could make out they will probably start doing it next month sometime the gentleman said. I have been wanting to check this out ever since I attended the festival over the summer. I had some very good food, I also had some items that weren't that tasty too. Hopefully next month they'll be up and running.
