As a former Pittsburgher, I miss those days...check out Italian hoagies at Salumerias at Reading market, Primos hoagies in center city...Not being originally from Philly, I'm sure I'm missing something...

Are you looking for recs in Pitt or Philly? Based on Claire's reply, I'm not certain.

If Pitt, go to the Primanti's in the Strip District so in addition to a Primanti sandwich (which I'm admittedly no huge fan of) you can also get a Wholey's (or Benkovitz) fish sandwich (I'm partial to Wholey's) as well as a sausage sub at Pennsylavania Macaroni. It helps if you have companion(s)

Thanks,

Pittsburgh's Strip is the final destination. Funny you should mention to have others along; my NY friend said same. I was considering places in addition to Primanti's if I can squeeze in two tastings in between planes, so thanks for the other recs.

Oops! took me a while, but I get it now - have a sandwich for me, and hey, if you ever come to Philly, you have some recommendations. You can also hit the Dirty O near Pitt Campus - hot dog joint.

Thanx for your posts. Did hear about the "0", but couldn't make it there; instead, had Jr fried fish (cod) sandwich at Wholey's, and baloney and cheese sandwich at Primanti's, with Iron City, which now comes in an aluminum "bottle" (all within 90 minutes before going to the airport)
