      <content>I'll never understand the appeal of these sandwiches. I tried one while in Pittsburgh a couple years ago and was surprised at how much I disliked it.
There were a couple slices of meat on white bread topped with a pile of some of the worst fries I've ever had and cole slaw.
 
I know it's a local institution, but yuck.</content>

      <content>IIRC, Calvin Trillin didn't like them when he tried them, either. 
 
I think that if the appeal was universal, there'd be a lot more places doing them nationwide. For me, it's telling that when I revisit the 'Burgh I don't search them out. I neither look for them nor avoid them.
