Places To Avoid In Lancaster

1. Amish Barn. Just ate there on a recommendation and had 4 for 4 bad meals. Turkey was tough and tasteless, pork/sauerkraut was inedible, kids didn't eat their food (OK, one of them is picky, but the other usually likes everything). To their credit, they didn't make us pay for the sauerkraut, but I made a solemn vow to my family never to go there again.

2. King Buffet. They have perinnially low health inspector ratings. The last time we ate there 3 of the 4 of us became violently ill within hours.

3. Willow Valley. Some of their food is still OK, but the quality has steadily degraded over the years. They are a shadow of their former self.

    1. Any place with the word "Amish" in its name is to be avoided as is anyplace with "buffet"

I don't think Willow Valley deserves to be mentioned with the other two places. It is what it is, a huge operation, but it is certainly clean and the stuff is not bad. In fact I kind of like the breakfast buffet

I would agree that Willow Valley's breakfast buffet has actually improved over the last few years and is now equal to Shady Maple (which I believe has deteriorated). Can't speak for the rest of the food at Willow Valley, since its been years since I had lunch or dinner there.

You're right, Mike; Willow Valley is a cut above the other two places I mentioned and their breakfast buffet is not bad. I highlighted them because of their declining trend and the fact that IMHO they have one of the poorer lunch/dinner buffets in the county (especially for the money).

Just don't make the mistake I made. We went to Willow Valley for a nice Sunday Brunch, very well laid out. Great selection of food, most of which was mediocre. Upon being seated, we were asked about drinks. We both order a Mimosa. The waitress just looked at us for a second, and then said the they were not 'that kind of place'. Turns out this place is Menonnite or somthing and is completely dry. Damn. To bad it wasn't Catholic. ;-)
                  Automatic thumbs down.
