resturant recommendations by Galleria

Gay Jan 9, 2002 08:54 AM

We will be spending a couple of days in San Francisco and will be staying at the Galleria. We would appreciate recommendations for an excellent resturant, preferably with great seafood. Thanks.

If you mean the Galleria Park Hotel on Sutter St., you're walking distance to two of SF's best known seafood restaurants: Aqua and Tadich Grill. There are innumerable posts on this board on both places which you can find by using the search engine on the Chowhound main page.

Even closer to the Galleria Park Hotel than Tadich is Sam's Grill, 374 Bush Street, another old-time S.F. seafood house. I actually prefer it to Tadich.

And right down the alley (Belden Place) from Sam's are B44 and Plouf. The former Catalan and the later French. Lots of great fish (especially salt cod) at B44, and some of the best bivalves around have ended their existence at Plouf.

If you go to Sam's (and I recommend you do) order the sand dabs. They will probably have them if the weather hasn't been too bad. MUCH better than Tadich, which I believe is grossly overrated. Unless you like being insulted by rude waiters.
