Just thought I'd let everyone know that Rx (45th and Spruce) has a $25.00 special from Tuesday to Thursday that includes three courses, anything on the menu.
They no longer have the fantastic tasting menu that I fell into a couple of months ago; it was too time-consuming for the busy (and talented) chef.

We were there last night (not on the special) with friends who had never been there. We all enjoyed it tnoroughly.

My husband loved the Diver scallop special. His fried oyster and chicken salad appetizer ($7 or $8 dollars, can't remember) was excellent. (Much better than the one we had for $12 recently at Chloe.) The other guy had the whole bronzino and proclaimed it the best fish he ever had in a restaurant.

My female friend said her langostinos were sweet and delicious, and my grilled trout was excellent. It sat on a bed of (mache, is that what it's called?) corn, peas, bacon and seasonings that was wonderful.

They have had a dessert there the last couple of times that has me completely seduced. It is a three-layer caramel cake, and I would die for that recipe. I can usually forego layer cake, but not this one.
They were out of the key lime pie made by Greg's mother (Greg is the owner); that is also terrific.

Another thing we like about Rx is that although it is usually full of people, we can hear ourselves talk.
It's BYOB.

I've read a lot about this place but have yet to go. Do they take reservations? Is there outside eating?

They do have some sidewalk seating; I don't think they take reservations. My experiences there were somewhat mixed. On the other hand, I'm not really crazy about Chloe either - I think it's the whole New American thing that leaves me cold.

Rx does indeed take reservations and they have about 4 outdoor tables. Their food's been a bit inconsistent in the past but is much improved with the new chef. It's at least worth going for the $25 deal Tuesday-Thursday.

I stand corrected on the reservations. I went last night, actually, and at about eight they were not at all crowded. Had the grilled squid and sauteed shrimp as appetizers, both good; we both had the lambchops as an entree, and they did not mess up some very good quality lamb, which is good. The desserts (chocolate pot-au-feu and chocolate cheesecake - I like fruity, but companion had bad day. She won) were both really, really good, and keep in mind I'm *not* a chocophile as such.

For $25 a piece, I almost felt guilty. Don't know if I'd want to pay full retail, though. The lamb would have been over $20 alone, and for that I need a little creativity, not just the wisdom not to screw up.
