Gillwoods Restaurant, Napa

A few weeks ago I had the chance to try this popular café in downtown Napa for lunch. Baked goods are house-made and the interior is country kitsch coffee shop.
Breakfast items, which are served all day, were the most interesting so I settled on Eggs Florentine ($8.50). Served in a gratin dish, the bed of steamed whole leaf spinach was fresh and well-trimmed and topped with two soft poached eggs. The good hollandaise sauce had a nice lemony kick and was not too thick. I appreciated that the spinach was well drained and didnt water down the dish. However, the home fries that are touted on the menu turned out to be mealy and soft with dull onions. The cup of fresh salsa was a nice touch and almost resuscitated the potatoes. A blueberry muffin with streusel (or you can have toast) went home with me and was a good afternoon snack.
This was decent, yet for the same money, I could have had something REALLY good at Cafe Lucy a couple blocks away.
