Gonna be in Philly for one night and one day. What would be your recommendations for dinner and lunch? Sorry to sound naive, but haven't been in Philly for decades!

Oops, didn't mention that. Doesn't have to be too fancy. Somewhat on a budget. We both are privvy to any type of cuisine, as long as it's good.

Here are some suggestions:

Nan (French-Thai Fusion)
215 382 0818

Monk's Cafe (Belgian)
215 545 7005

Valanni (Latin)
215 790 9494

La Boheme (French)
215 351 9901

Magazine (American?)
215 567 5000

I guess these are *roughly* around the same cost-wise ... they are all relatively reasonable, though. Nan and La Boheme are BYOs.

We have a lot of choices for interesting places if you are on a budget.

Italian - Lauletta's, Cucina Forte, Hosteria del Elio, L'Angolo, Hosteria del Elio, Tre Scalini (the latter two are slightly more pricy)all are BYO

Latin/mex - Azafran (byo south american), Tequilas
Middle eastern/mediterranean - Figs, Aden (both byo)

There are many others, these are just the ones that come to mind.

Here are some Asian choices to go along with the other cuisines already mentioned. In Chinatown there is Rangoon at 112 north 9th street(Burmese),Vietnam Palace at 222 north 11th street, Sangkee Peking duck house at 238 north 9th street for excellent dumpling and noodle soups, and seafood dishes. Our current favorite Chinese place is Tai Lake (134 north 10th street) for extremely fresh seafood.
We also have a few authentic Mexican restaurants now in Philadelphia. Taqueria Veracruzana in South Philly is our favorite and it is very reasonably priced.
The Standard Tap is a great neighborhood bar and restaurant in Northern Liberties, with a very good and interesting beer selection and excellent bar food to go with it.
For a true Philadelphia experience head down to Tony Lukes in south Philly on Oregon Avenue and have a Pork Sandwich with aged provolone cheese and broccoli rabe.

If you're going to be here on a Saturday, very few places are open for lunch.
The best - and most fun - would be to go to the Reading Terminal Market, at 12th and Arch - and have a great time!
It is not open on Sundays.
For dinner, you have lots of great suggestions here. If it's a Saturday evening, reserve ahead. Places like Nan don't have room at the last minute.
Enjoy our city!
