I know there have been many threads about cheesesteaks in the past, so here is my 2 cents.

I haven't been able to eat a commercially made steak since 1994, but the memories are still there. Without question, the best I had was the one from Jim's. The right combination of good bread, spices, onions and of course steak. Sure, you shouldn't go there if you are concerned there is too much grease, etc.

But, if you are willing to thumb your nose at your cardiologist, Jim's is the place.

I find the cheessteaks at Jim's to be average at best. Far better are the ones at Chink's, 6030 Torresdale Ave., with a side-dish of 40's nostalic atmosphere thrown in for free; or the ones at Frusco's, 7010 Frankford Ave, big monster cheesteaks; or the ones at either Geno's or Pat's (both 9th & Passayunk), who keep the flame of the orghinal idea alive and well. For a chopped version of the cheesesteak (as opposed to the sliced version served at the above places) I would head to Dallesandro's on Henry Ave in Roxborough, or just around the corner to the Henry James Tavern on tiny James St. for far better versions that what Jim's produces.

The cheese steaks at Maggio's in Southampton are awesome. They come in a pouch-italian roll shaped like a pouch- or for those who just can't fathom eating your cheese steak any other way then in a regular italian roll, you can get them that way too. Their pizzas are also the best. Gina
