Sunday Brunch

Can someone recommend a good place to have Sunday brunch to celebrate a special occasion? Price is not a concern. We'll be staying in downtown and will have a car so we can drive anywhere too.

Thanks!
Amy

  1. Oops, I meant downtown Philadelphia.

I would recommend the Sunday Brunch at the Park Hyatt Philadelphia, 19th floors above The Bellevue, spread over two gorgeous rooms, the 1904-era Rose Garden Room, where the buffet itself resides, and the domed Founders restaurant, to where you dine . Great views of the city, huge dramatic palladian windows, and a pianist tinkling the ivories.

There is no downtown Philadelphia; this ain't no NY.

      2. The White Dog isn't bad at all...

I second that. I am not sure exactly what you are looking for in a "brunch" -- eg. buffet? mimosas? But I can say that the White Dog cafe is a restaurant I would return to quiet frequently, were it not for the 2728.6 mile distance from my house. See my previous trip post for more details...

I third the White Dog. The bread basket alone is worth the price of admission.

This one is a no brainer. If it's a special occasion and price is no object the Four Seasons is the ultimate brunch in town. Civilized, decadent, elegant and spectacularly delicious. What more could you ask for?

          1. Can I just say if you can get out of downtown?> And go to Media, PA, the Little Inn on State street (easy to get to) has a HUGE sunday brunch from 10-2 for about $18. PP. It is unreal. A room full of Monty-Python type food with towering cakes, giant bowls of heavenly veggies and fruits, steaming silver domes loaded with breakfast foods, roasts, chicken, rice pilaf, the list gos on and on and on. Luckily I got 2 gift cards for there for Christmas. I love it. Its romantic and amazing. Like an eaters dream come true.

            1. Another good sunday brunch with a historical view and a walking trail and duck pond is The Valley Green Inn off of Forbidden drive in Chestnut Hill, PA. This is not a buffet style like the little Inn but is high quality, a tad pricey, but elegant and breath-taking view. A nice place to get engaged. Also, the Mendenhall Inn is quite nice. I did not like the Collegeville Inn brunch.

              1. re: Erin1020

The Collegeville Inn has closed the buffet restaurant.

              2. i've posted it before and i've yet to find another brunch in the city to beat it in terms of value (well, with the exception of fish tank in manayunk which closed) - i looooove the brunch at north third in northern liberties. it's an off-the-beaten path place, close to center city, not terribly expensive, a little different, and downright delicious. omelettes and french toast and mimosas. there is nothing better! i would easily pay three times as much for the food there.

                1. Well, if price is no object, then why drive all the way to Media for a 18.00 brunch?? Makes no sense. Or for that matter why drive to Valley Green for what is a very mediocre lunch. Four Seasons will do just fine, but you really want to go to Lacroix. There is no better brunch place in Philly, especially not in Media!! Oh, yes, the White Dog is a great place, but save it for when you are broke.

                  1. re: OlderPhiladelphian

Agreed. A special, price-is-no-object brunch? Lacroix, Lacroix, Lacroix.
