we're coming in from DC for graduation and have a small group -- 6-12 -- and thought an Italian family-style might be good. Does anyone know about Mama Maria's? It sounded like fun, I like the idea of the prix fixe and lots of food, but is it good food?? Thanks for help.

I truly don't mean to be a smart-ass, but where are you coming in to?

sorry, I got a little distracted thinking about all that food... we're going to Philadelphia -- and I read about Mamma Maria's and wondered if anyone knew anything about it

It's been a couple of years, but when we went to Mama Maria's the food was average. HOWEVER - the waitstaff was terrific, there is an abundance of food and wine - we were greatly entertained by a large family celebrating two First Communions - and we had a great time. You might, however, check out a couple of other places in South Phila, such as La Grolla, or Tre Scalini, if it's still open. Look farther down this message board, too, for other suggestions. If all else fails, hie thee to Tony Luke's - the original - and order rounds of roast pork "with" - with everything, provolone, broccoli rape, and gravy, and a side of fries. do not dress formally for this experience unless you are very good friends with your dry cleaner.
