Thanks for Philly Recommendations
I just wanted to thank the posters to the Pennsylvania board. When planning a short-notice trip to Philly, I had the challenge of finding a restaurant that 1)is close to the convention center; 2) has good-to-excellent food 3)is vegetarian-friendly and 4)is reasonably priced. I searched the threads and found many possibilities...settled on Singapore (Race Street, 2 blocks east of the Convention Center), and found food rapture. My family can't thank you enough! The food was superb--all vegetarian (and kosher, at that). Every dish delivered on its promise, all made with a clean, subtle hand, and avoiding that pitfall of sameness that sometimes afflicts those who serve veg dishes that imitate meat. Service was excellent, the surroundings were pleasant and comfortable, and three of us dined on appetizers, entrees and (one) beer for $36. Can't beat that. Thanks for coming through, Chowhounds!
Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of users do not take the time to give back by posting reports of their restaurant experience. Good, bad, or indifferent, it's reports like these that really enrichen the information offered here.
Actually, the negative reports are the most valuable, because they add balance.
re: Jim Leff
Can anyone provide any info one a terrific South Philly area Italian Restaurant with great food (pastas, meats) big portions and real cheap prices?
I've been sampling some of the South Philly spots but have yet to find one with a nice antipasto or that offer a nice meat with a side of pasta. Looking for a real great find. Atmosphere is scondary and BYOis preferred.
