Well not in Arlington, but in Rockville there is a great place called Carmen's Italian Ice. Also there are a few locations in the DC area of Rita's Ices. I haven't been there yet but there is a location in DC and Silver Spring. Has anyone been to Rita's? What's it like?

Rita's is fine and prices are low. They also have frozen custard, "misto" (ital. ice & frozen custard shake) & gelati.

We like Carmen's too, and on the 8th of every month they discount their Italian ices & gelati (layers of vanilla frozen yogurt & Ital. ice) - I think half-price. Prices are low anyway.

But both are not as intese as gelatos, just so you know. I've tried very good gelatos at Sam's in Rockville at Ritchie Plaza, and Magruder's in Cleveland Park. Haven't tried Dolecezza's (formerly Icy Icee) in Georgetown yet...

I was surprised to find out awhile ago that the Italian Store in Arlington doesn't carry Italian ices fresh from the scoop. I think they have some in the freezer though.

Haven't been for a while so I don't know if it is still there, but there was a stand on the west side of Route 1 just north of Route 32 in Laurel/Columbia MD. Its ices were homemade and were outstanding.
