Hi chowhounds,

does anyone know of a good indian weekend lunch buffet in the gaithersburg/rockville area? I heard Woodlands closed. I wasn't a big fan of bombay bistro in rockville...Any suggestions? I'm taking several people who have never tried Indian food before so I want to make a good impression!

Hand down India Palace and Tandoor in Germantown:

Here's what makes it better than others:
      1. They list their daily buffet item by item on their website daily
      2. The naan comes out fresh to your table, unlike other places where a batch sits out cold and chewy
      3. They have butter chicken everyday along with other chicken dishes.
      4. FREE mango lassi and sodas INCLUDED in price
(I have no vested financial interest in the place, just a happy customer)

Today we had lunch at India Palace Bar and Tandoor. Yes, the daily buffet was updated on their webiste. The naan was fresh and hot, and the table service was excellent. The goat curry was spicy and flavorful. The Navratan Korma (nine gem curry) was light with the potatoes done perfectly. The Mango Lassi was sweet and refreshing. The price was more than the buffet at Saagar, but the decor (and cloth tablecloth and napkins) is nicer, whereas at Saagar you get a big screen TV playing a Bollywood video, which is fine.

I love Mem Sahib's $7 lunch buffet - it's on Boiling Brook Pkwy in Rockville, off Nicholson/Parklawn Ln, in the same shopping center as Katz's & Amazing Savings.
      It's closed Mondays tho

India Palace recently opened in the College Plaza shopping center on Rockville Pike--the one with the Magruder's supermarket. You can't see it from the Pike; it's in the back row of stores. It has the best of the $7.95 buffets in the area--better than the numerous ones I've sampled.

Today I had an excellent affordable lunch buffet at Saagar Indian Cuisine in Gaithersburg. There was a good variety and plenty of fresh naan and rice.

          Weekday Lunch Buffet $6.95

What about "Minerva" at the intersection of Rt. 355 and Shady Grove Road? The do a large lunch buffet every day of the week. I always enjoyed the large variety and quality of the food.

Minerva is also very good judging by how packed it can get. They do have a large variety to choose from, but I think customer service could use improvement. Quality of food is good.
