Hi. Hope that candy constitutes chow.

Hoping to buy some candy to thank a South African friend. Things like wine gum, Flakes, and Cadbury's chocolate. Where in the DC area can I buy this stuff? Is there a British tea shop or something around?

I'm in Arlington, but can travel if necessary.

(I do recall a shop in Annapolis but that's a little far.)

Thanks.

There's a shop called the "British Pantry & Cafe" in Aldie, VA, right on Route 50 before Gilbert's Corner. It's a bit out of the way, but I'd start there, at least with a phone call.

There is a british goods store (also sells cigars, which I think is more prominent on the signage) in Arlington on Wilson Blvd next to Hard Times Cafe. They have a large selection of candy and crisps as well as some grocery items.

Its called Classic Cigars & British Goodies.
Its on Wilson Blvd next to Hard Times just steps from the Clarendon metro.
There is also the Tea Cosy on Royal St in Old Town Alexandria which is a tea room with a little store in the back selling what you are seeking plus Vivian's fresh baked scones.

I find Rodman's (the 2 MD locations too) have cheaper prices for British (and other European) food products than the small British speciality stores you'll find in the suburbs. Rodman's bargains with international suppliers for good prices, in bulk. Rodman's has good wine selections too...

World Market has an assortment of British candies, too. Their prices tend to be reasonable. I believe there's a World Market in Bailey's Crossroads in the same plaza as the big Giant.

Strangely, there is a chocolate store right inside one of the main entrances of Landmark Mall in Alexandria (right off of 395 at Duke Street) that specializes in hand made favors for weddings, bridal and baby showers, etc. They also have a huge assortment of Cadbury chocolates. I always stop there for a treat of Malteasers! YUM! I don't know the name of the shop, but it is right next to the American Grille rstaurant and the hair salon inside the entrance that faces Duke street across from the BJ's Wholesale club. Hope this helps.
