Hey Alex, thanks for the heads up. Took a little searching but I found the article on the site (link below). After the previous snubs in the Chron, it's nice to finally get some credit.
Did you also notice the new and improved Bargain Bites? This year's new entries are heavily weighted to places we've reported on here not seen in other food media.

They may have been discovered independently, who knows. But even if some finds were inspired by discussion here, hey, they've given us a nod, so I personally have no objection whatsoever.
thanks to Tara Duggan...and kudos for a very well-written article.
FWIW, I personally like the Tacos Acapulco truck, across from Carmen's BBQ in Hayward (for carne asado and cabeza only...skip everything else!)
ciao

However they came to be discovered, at least the Chron has finally seen the light and freshened up the cheap eats recommendations.

I'm guessing that the Chron is giving its Bargin bites spread a little more attention due to the downsizing of the Bay Areas economy and the resultant fall out in the resturant world. More of a time for "Nan N Cury" than "Asia de Cuba"

Shalimar was not on the list for the first time in a very long time. Yet Naan 'n Curry was on the list. I also noticed that N'nC is favored on this board. Hmmmm....maybe great minds do think alike?

I was happy to see Naan 'n' Curry get some recognition. Maybe the new paint job pulled it ahead of Shalimar, although I don't see why Shali would be dropped. Also, it was Patricia Unterman had really raved about Shalimar early on, maybe the Chron needed to find its own place.
The list was in serious need of refitting (last year's thread and list linked below). Yet, the clean-up isn't complete yet. Wonder if the staff really did check out the places anew.
